Signature Golf Design Standing the Test of Time

Signature Golf Design is second to none in providing architectural excellence, environmentally sensitive land planning services, efficient project and construction management, and creative construction that stands the test of time.

More than 140 of the world's finest golf courses share the stellar signature of architect Harrison Minchew's quality design work, including both courses at The K Club at Kildare Hotel and Country Club, Straffan, County Kildare, Ireland, home of the prestigious 2006 Ryder Cup, The King and Bear at the World Golf Village, St. Augustine, Florida, one of the world's only co-design by golfing greats Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus - and the Tradition in LaQuinta, California, a private club in the California desert that continues to receive international acclaim and national awards for its beauty and design. As President of Signature Golf Design, Minchew has melded a lifetime of loving golf and 27 years of unmatched architectural experience with Palmer Course Design Company.

Passionately involved in golf from childhood, Minchew was born and raised in Augusta, Georgia, home of the Masters Tournament (the perfect training ground for an innovative, dedicated and knowledgeable golf architect). Since earning his degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Georgia, Harrison Minchew has distinguished himself as one of the finest golf course architects in the world.

"It's in my blood," says Minchew, whose love of the game and of the fabulous expanse of beautiful turf on which it is played, is evident in every Signature Golf Design course.

In the great tradition of classic architects such as Donald Ross and Alister Mackenzie, it is the goal of Signature Golf Design to emulate the timeless character, strategy and design principles of the Golden Age of Golf Architecture, elevating modern golf design to a new level of excellence. Some of Mackenzie's design principles, still evident in many of the great courses today, are: "The course should have beautiful surrounds, and all the artificial features should have an appearance that a stranger is unable to distinguish them from nature itself. There should be an infinite variety in the strokes required to play the various holes - that is long brassie shots, iron shots, pitch and run up shots." The historic and classic golf designers such as Ross, A.W. Tillinghast and Allister McKenzie provided the foundation upon which the design standards of Signature Golf Design were founded.

Working side by side with the late, great golf architect Ed Seay, whose lineage to the legendary Ross spanned five decades, Minchew received his training and exposure to the discipline of golf architecture from the best. In the same way that Seay learned from Donald Ross student Ellis Maples, Minchew follows Ross's design principles such as: "Make each hole present a different problem, arrange the course so that every stroke must be made with the full concentration and attention for good golf; and build each hole in such a manner that it wastes none of the ground at ones disposal and takes advantage of every possibility."

"Most importantly," Minchew says, "Seay taught us how to design in the field and produce great golf courses, no matter the circumstance." The "Team approach" to golf design that was always emphasized by Ed Seay and Arnold Palmer has become ingrained in Minchew to such a degree that it is now integral to the approach of Signature Golf Design.

With exposure to the very best of all disciplines of golf, residential and resort development, and experience garnered from working with world renowned developers, leading environmentalists, visionary planners, innovative construction managers, dynamic marketing experts and talented, passionately creative golf course builders, Minchew has been involved in orchestrating some of golf's highest profile projects.

When world class quality is required, Minchew has a proven track record of design excellence.

With a penchant for creating fun, traditional and challenging golf courses, Minchew and his team at Signature Golf Design are dedicated to meeting the unique needs of every golfer, regardless of experience or ability, as well as enhancing each environment with respectful attention to preserving the natural beauty that is already there.

Scottish golfer Jessica Anderson Valentine said, "The friends you make on a golf course are the friends you make for life." After a lifetime of living on the links and nearly three decades of working with golf legend Arnold Palmer, Harrison Minchew has developed myriad relationships with the world's top professional golfers as well as an impressive cadre of business giants and celebrities. The unique perspective of having created courses that meet the high standards of the best golfers around the globe is a quality that sets Signature Golf Design apart and above other architectural golf design firms.

"Our passion at Signature Golf Design is creating exciting traditional and challenging courses while being dedicated to the unique characteristics of every site and the unique needs of every client."  Harrison Minchew, President.
